I am trying to use ORA in the Custon Action screen. I am able to run ORA using the following link over the network, but when I add this to the Custom Action list it loads the ORA screen, but I get the following error, "The page you are trying to view has an incorrect address and cannot be displayed. Please try another page."

\\servername\share\helpctr.exe /url hcp://CN=Microsoft%20Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US/Remote%20Assistance/Escalation/unsolicited/unsolicitedrcui.htm

Please advise,
Niles

Okay, I was able to find a script that would allow me to type in the users name and it would bring up the computer that they were logged into, luanch Remote Assistance and pass the computer name automaticlly. Here is the code.

@echo off
setlocal

rem Prompt for the username
cls
set /p TheirName="Enter the username: "
set TheirHost=
set TheirIP=

rem Clear the NetBIOS cache
nbtstat -R > NUL

rem Send null message to user
rem NOTE: Messenger service must be running on both machines
net send %TheirName% "">NUL 2>NUL

rem Parse the nbtstat output for the IP
for /f "tokens=4" %%i in ('nbtstat -c ^|find /i "%TheirName%"') do set TheirIP=%%i

rem Find the hostname using ping -a
for /f "tokens=2" %%j in ('ping -a -n 1 %TheirIP% ^|find "Pinging"') do set TheirHost=%%j

rem Prompt to start Remote Assistance
cls
echo Username: %TheirName%
echo Computer: %TheirHost%
echo IP Address: %TheirIP%
echo.
echo Press any key to start Remote Assistance or CTRL-C to abort.
echo.
pause

rem Copy custom remote assistance page if necessary
set filename="%windir%\pchealth\helpctr\Vendors\CN=Microsoft Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US\Remote Assistance\Escalation\Unsolicited\RemoteAssistance.htm"
if exist %filename% goto :RA

copy RemoteAssistance.htm %filename%

rem Start remote assistance
:RA
start %windir%\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe -url "hcp://CN=Microsoft Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US/Remote Assistance/Escalation/Unsolicited/RemoteAssistance.htm?%TheirHost%"

Now what I would like to do is bypass the user name lookup and just simply pass the computer name from Lansweepers's Action screen to Remote Assistance. I am not the much on modifying scripts but maybe someone would know how to modify this one.

Thanks,
Niles

I have created a custom action for this - which seems to work well for our needs.

There are three stages:

1. Create a new remoateassistance.htm page that will need to exist on the client PC calling the custom action.
2. Create a custom action script to call
3. Add the custom action string to the custom actions on the gui.

STEP 1 - Create a new RemoteAssistance.htm page
Create a new .htm file called RemoteAssistance.htm and save it to the central location where you keep all your custom action scripts (eg. \\domaincontroller\netlogon\lansweeper\scripts) and paste the following code:

Code:
<HTML XMLNS:helpcenter>
<HEAD>
<!--

-->
<helpcenter:context id=idCtx />
<TITLE>Remote Assistance</TITLE>

STEP 2 - Create a Custom Action Script

Create a .bat file (I called it RALaunch.bat and save it in the same central location as the RemoteAssistance.htm file as set above where you store your other custom action scripts. Make sure you change the line under :COPYRA to reflect the location of the RemoteAssistance.htm file.

Paste the following code into it:

Code:
@echo off
if exist "$computername$\C$\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Vendors\CN=Microsoft Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US\Remote Assistance\Escalation\Unsolicited\remoteassistance.htm" goto RA

goto COPYRA

:RA
start %windir%\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Binaries\HelpCtr.exe -url "hcp://CN=Microsoft Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US/Remote Assistance/Escalation/Unsolicited/RemoteAssistance.htm?%1"

goto END

:COPYRA
copy "\\domaincontroller\netlogon\lansweeper\scripts\remoteassistance.htm" "\\%computername%\C$\WINDOWS\PCHEALTH\HELPCTR\Vendors\CN=Microsoft Corporation,L=Redmond,S=Washington,C=US\Remote Assistance\Escalation\Unsolicited\remoteassistance.htm"

GOTO RA

:END

STEP 3. Add the Custom Action String on the GUI

From the LS GUI add the custom action
Code:
\\domaincontroller\netlogon\lansweeper\scripts\ralaunch.bat {computer}

NOTES

Make sure you change the \\domaincontroller\netlogon\lansweeper\scripts to suit your environment in all cases - i.e. in the .bat file and the custom action string.
Make sure you have the RemoteAssistance.htm file in the same place.

WHAT HAPPENS

The modified RA file has to exist on the client PC you are sending the request from - so the batch file checks for this file each time you launch the custom action and if the file does not exist it copies it over.

You will still need to click "Connect" once the RA page appears, but it should already have been populated with the computer name.

Let me know how you get on - as it works great for us.

Path can be whatever you want - so long as you ensure all references to the path are the same.

I just used that syntax as an example.

It could be \\fileserver\shared\lansweeeper or whatever - just make sure all references are the same - especially in the batch file.

Okay, I recently upgrade to 3.2 and now when I go to recreate the htm for Offer Remote Assissants in Step 1. I get nothing but text when I view the page.

Please advise,

Following this link you will also find the 2 files that needs to be modified si that the user does not have to accept the connection, really handy when they are off to take a leak Angel

Has anyone been able to get this to work from a Vista Machine? Microsoft changed the exe and the path to the assistance feature. I think this is a great feature to have, but I am running Vista and am not so good with the scripting to try to make the changes to make it work.

thank you
